Why should I choose to have a service plan on my heating and cooling system?

You will maximize efficiency by having the annual maintenance done to your system. As your equipment ages we can make recommendations on upgrading to higher efficiency models.

A service plan is like insurance coverage for your heating/cooling equipment. (See service plans for details). If you require an annual equipment tune-up and one service call, the plan has paid for itself. If your unit is over five to ten years old, we recommend that you purchase a Super Plan with extended parts coverage. For a newer unit, Standard Plan coverage may be adequate.

Why is there an extra charge for a service plan if you do not purchase heating oil from Besche?

Our service plans are priced as an additional benefit for our oil customers.

Why can service NOT be rendered to air conditioners or heat pumps on a rainy day?

For safety reasons, outdoor units run on electricity and repairing them involves handling electrical components and wiring which can endanger the service technician or your equipment.

Can a service plan be included in my SmartPay Plan?

Yes. We calculate the cost of the service plan of your choice into your SmartPay Plan.

Payment Methods
I have just received my statement and my payment is not shown there! Where is my payment?

If you have made a payment after the first of the month it is posted to your account and will show on your next statement. We close our books on the last day of the month and print statements. The statements are placed in envelopes and sent to the Post Office. This process takes approximately 10 days.

When can I start my SmartPay Plan?

You may apply from July through October. Each following year the SmartPay Plan will begin in August.

Why can't I start the SmartPay Plan in mid-winter?

SmartPay is comparable to the Christmas Club at your bank. The earlier you start, the lower your payment will be. When you start late there are no funds saved to withdraw future purchases.

Do I have to be on a SmartPay Plan to receive automatic delivery?

No. But you need a credit approved account or a security deposit account.

Do I have to be on automatic delivery to have a SmartPay Plan?

Yes.

I like to order my own oil, but I am not sure how much my tank will hold and I am not home to give the delivery man a check. What should I do?

Have your tank filled and pay with a credit card or Auto-Pay. You do not have to be there to pay, but we can fill your tank to avoid running low in cold weather.

How can I protect myself from high energy prices?

Enroll in the Ceiling Price Protection.

Why is the Ceiling Price Protection only offered to customers who receive automatic delivery?

Customers who receive automatic delivery have made a commitment and paid a fee to purchase all of their heating oil from us. We, in turn, make a firm commitment to our suppliers for a specified number of gallons to be purchased in the coming heating season.

Do you deliver on weekends?

We do not schedule regular deliveries on weekends. However, during the coldest part of the winter we do deliver to our automatic customers on weekends if the weather requires it.

How often are your automatic deliveries made?

Deliveries are not based on a calendar date. They vary from customer to customer based on individual use, building size and weather conditions. Batches of tickets are printed daily and delivered in groups. For details see Fuel Delivery section.

If I am on automatic delivery, may I call for a fill-up?

Yes. However, you will pay the daily price for fuel which may be higher than your ceiling price (if applicable) and you must fill the tank to capacity. If your tank takes less than 150 gallons there will be a delivery charge.

How long will my Ceiling Price Protection last?

The ceiling price is effective September through the following April

Do I need to pay anything or renew anything to keep my Ceiling Price Protection?

Yes. There is an additional fee. Please consult one of our Customer Service Representatives for details.

How far ahead should I call if I am not on automatic delivery?

We ask that you call 3 business days before you need a home heating oil delivery. Many times we can make the delivery sooner, but in bad weather it could take longer.

What is a hybrid dual fuel system?

Dual Fuel Systems use a heat pump in conjunction with an oil furnace to maximize the efficiency of your heating and cooling system.

Does receiving fuel from another company void my manufacturer's warranty?

No, all Besche Oil Company's furnace installations come with a two year warranty.

Do you install ultra-violet air treatment and mold irradiation systems?

Yes, the Carrier, Honeywell and Steril-Air systems are the brands we recommend.

Why has Besche Oil chosen to partner with Trane, Carrier, Columbia and Honeywell?

Trane is regularly rated first in customer satisfaction by several national consumer product rating services. Carrier has been a technological leader in the industry for over 100 years. Columbia is a local (Baltimore) boiler and furnace manufacturer. Our 30 years of experience with their products and customer support has lead us to believe this is the right product for many of our customers.

Tanks
Do I need a tank warranty?

We recommend you consider the TankSure® program. See details in the service guide and at www.bescheoil.com.

Can you install an underground tank?

Yes. We install both steel and fiberglass coated tanks. The fiberglass coated steel tanks have a longer life and are recommended for harsher environments, such as close to salt water or in soil with high electrolysis.

Can you install basement tanks?

Yes. Besche Oil has basement oil tanks. We install tanks with both single wall and double wall containment systems.
